Are you into KBO but still unsure which team to root for? Here's what you need.
In KBO, there are 10 teams centered around hometowns.
Doosan Bears, Nc Dinos, Hanwha Eagles, Lotte Giants, Kiwoom Heroes, Kt Wiz, Samsung Lions, Kia Tigers, LG Twins, and SSG Landers.
This blog post will only cover teams in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and teams in other regions will be covered in the next post.
1. Kiwoom Heroes
Location: Seoul
Ballpark: Gocheok Stadium
Established: 2008
Korean Serious Championship: -
Former name(s): Woori Heroes, Seoul Heroes, Nexen Heroes
Kiwoom Heroes has never won the Korean Series, but it is a team full of young players, full of passion and hope. Compared to other teams, new players and prospects are given more opportunities, so it is fun to discover new talented players. Star players include Lee Jeong-hoo and Kim Hyeseong.
2. Doosan Bears
Location: Seoul
Ballpark: Jamsil Baseball Stadium
Established: 1982
Korean Serious Championship: 6 times (1982, 1995, 2001, 2015, 2016, 2019) ※ Including OB Bears winning records
Former name(s): OB Bears
The Doosan Bears are a club with a particularly large number of female fans compared to other teams. Some say it's because there are a lot of good-looking players, but it's also because of the cute logo, uniform, and bear mascot. Founded in 1982, there are many old fans, and as they won the Korea Series in 2015 and 2016, they have formed a strong fan base among young fans, showing strong loyalty.
3. LG Twins
Location: Seoul
Ballpark: Jamsil Baseball Stadium
Established: 1990
Korean Serious Championship: 3 times(1990, 1994, 2023)
Former name(s): MBC Blue Dragon( cheonglyong)
LG Twins is a team that won the regular season championship and the Korean Series last year, giving fans their second championship in 29 years. LG brought happiness to fans by winning both seasons last year. Established in 1990, LG also has a long history, and there are many cases where entire families are LG fans.
And since LG and Doosan share the same home stadium, the fans don't get along well. If you want to root for 2 KBO teams, make sure you are not rooting for LG and Doosan at the same time!
4. SSG Landers
Location: Incheon
Ballpark: Incheon SSG Landers Field
Established: 2021
Korean Serious Championship: 5 times (2007, 2008, 2010, 2018, 2022) ※ Including SK Wyverns' winning record
Former name(s): SK Wyverns
SSG is a team with powerful home run hitters and is based in Incheon. Although the team was SK Wyverns for a long time, a lot of things changed when SSG took over the club. In particular, many fans are disappointed and leave the team when a player who has been with the team for his entire baseball career has to leave for another team. However, SSG's play is still great and there are many veteran players!
5. KT Wiz
Location: Suwon
Ballpark: Suwon KT Wiz Park
Established: 2013
Korean Serious Championship: 1 time(2021)

KT Wiz is the most newly established club compared to other teams. It is located in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. Although they missed out on winning the championship last fall, they showed their potential. They went to the postseason by finishing third in the league, but they ended up going to the Korean Series and against LG Twins until the end which thrilled the fans.
