Did you watch the opening game of MLB today? For KBO, the opening day was last week!
The opening day of the 2024 professional baseball season is March 23, 2024. It used to start in the last week of March or the first week of April. However, the post-season, also called “fall baseball” was delayed till November due to a lot of rained-out games. As the games were played in such cold weather, the risk of injury to players increased, and fans had to cheer on their teams in freezing weather. Baseball fans made jokes about it being winter baseball rather than fall baseball as the temperature was so low. There KBO decided to start the season earlier. Also, they’re shortening the break after the All-Star Game from 7 days to 4 days and having doubleheader games starting in April.
10 KBO teams played their opening games on Saturday, March 23rd. It was held at the home stadium of the top-ranked teams (1st to 5th) based on last year's power rank. Doosan Bears ranked 5th, but as they share the home stadium with the LG Twins, which ranked 1st, the 6th-place KIA Tigers could play at their home stadium.
Among the five games, the match between LG and Hanwha caught people’s interest the most. This is not only because LG is one of the strong teams that won the regular season and postseason last year, but especially because Hyunjin Ryu of the Hanwha Eagles, who advanced to MLB in 2012, declared his return to KBO and appeared as a pitcher in the opening game.

Regular Season of 2024
All teams will be playing 144 games this year. The regular season will be scheduled from March 23rd to August 29th.
Regardless of the results of the opening game, every team will have to do their best to finish the season. They should keep in mind that there are no absolute strong or weak teams in baseball, which is the beauty of the sport.
