Guess where the 2024 MLB regular season will begin! Unprecedentedly, the MLB regular season begins at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, Korea not the United States.
MLB Seoul Series
MLB Seoul Series, the first regular season of MLB happening in Korea, has made many Korean fans excited. The San Diego and LA Dodgers players were scheduled to have 4 special games and 2 regular games. Hundreds of fans flocked to the airport upon their arrival, and even some fans traveled from Japan to see Shohei Ohtani.
Both team played speical games with the Kiwoom Heroes, LG Twins, and the Korean national baseball team on the 17th and 18th. And played the opening regular season game on the 20th and 21st. As it was the first MLB game held in Korea, many Korean fans was looking forward to it. Even though the price range was set considerably higher than that of a usual KBO game, tickets for the first game were sold out in 8 minutes.
The ceremonial first pitch
Chanho Park appeared as the first pitcher at the opening game between the Dodgers and San Diego on March 20th. He is one of the legendary players of KBO. He was the first baseball player who made the MLB debut with the LA Dodgers in 1994. After 30 years, he threw the first pitch in the first MLB regular league game held in Korea. He engraved 'PADgers' on his jersey, which was a combination of 'PADRES' and 'Dodgers'.
Seoul Series Day 2
The second game was a game with so many hits which ended up with repeated reversals and re-reversals. San Diego Padres defeated LA Dodgers 15-11.
When San Diego was taking a narrow lead of 12-11 in the 9th inning, Manny Machado launched three-run blast into left-field seats which led the Padres the 15-11 lead.
Also, for Haseong Kim, MLB Seoul Series means a lot to him. He has returned to Gocheok Dome, which he had used as his home stadium for seven years. Although there were no hits on regular game, he stole bases and had RBI, showing off a brilliant defense worthy of a Gold Glove winner.
